Green Hill Families of
North Carolina and Virginia
1700's to 1860

Over the past 35 years, I have been amazed at the number of Sion Hills and Green Hills that abound in the census records having been born in North Carolina and Virginia.  Both names have significance in my direct genealogy as my fourth great grandfather was Sion Hill from Johnston County who married Starage Lee on October 21, 1800 and the bondsman was one Green Hill.  So, indeed, we get both names on one marriage record.  Since a Green Hill appears on the 1800 census of Johnston County as a male over 45 years of age, he is an excellent candidate for bondsman on the marriage license and Sion Hill’s father.

In trying to determine if this Green Hill was Sion Hill’s father, it became clear that a full search of all the Green Hill’s who were born somewhere in a 1750 timeframe would be necessary.  There are so many Green Hills born in this period that it took an exhaustive study to find and identify to whom they belong.  In fact, I identified about 20 Green Hills who needed identification.  For your study and information, I have presented them all here together in no particular order.
