Jerry McDowell

Biography

Dr. Larry Jerome McDowell was born in High Point.  Known as "Jerry", he graduated from High Point Central High School in 1964.  He received a George Foster Hankins Scholarship to Wake Forest University and graduated in 1968 with a B. S. degree in Mathematics.  Following his graduation from Wake Forest University, Jerry enrolled in Duke University where he received a Master of the Arts in Teaching Degree in 1969 while teaching in the Raleigh/Wake County Public School System.  He completed his Doctoral Degree in Education from Duke University in 1984 and was the Executive Director of Information Systems (Computer Services) for the Wake County Public School System before becoming the Chief Technology Officer in 1995. He retired from the Wake County Public School System in 1998 and changed his part-time Director of Contemporary Music and Worship at Grace Community Church into a full-time position.  After nearly eleven years in the church environment, Jerry retired from church work in July 2007 and is now back researching on a more active schedule.

Jerry married Dolores Ann Sloan in 1969, has two children (daughter Susan is deceased), and presently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina.
